State Hospitality Management Institute inauguratedMinister for Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the State Institute of Hospitality Management at the Yatri Nivas at Kozhikode on August 11.
Speaking on the occasion he said that 50 students, selected through an all-India entrance conducted by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, would be trained for the three-year B.Sc. programme. An additional 10 seats have been reserved for candidates from the State. Those interested in joining the course could apply now, he said.
The State Industries Department had allotted five acres of land of the defunct Kerala Soaps and Oils at West Hill for the project, he said. Presiding over the function, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said that his department would remove scrap and demolish old structures to facilitate construction of buildings.
Tourism Secretary V. Venu said that cost of the project was Rs.15.65 crore. The Centre had provided Rs.10 crore while the State government would contribute the rest. For now, classes for the new batch of students would be held at the building of Yatri Nivas at West Hill. The institute would be managed by a society registered by the State government. Within a few years, the institute would have facilities to start research programmes in hotel management and hospitality management, Dr. Venu said. A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, and Mayor M.
