Labour and Excise Minister P.K.Gurudasan has said that comprehensive projects are on the anvil to develop traditional sectors, tourism and infrastructure in Kollam.
He was speaking after releasing the book ‘Sutharya Rekhakal’, published by the I&PRD as part of the anniversary celebrations of the Government, here on Friday. District Panchayat president K.Somaprasad received a copy of the book. The Minister also inaugurated the photography award ceremony and distribution of gold membership of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF).
Gurudasan said that projects were being formulated for the infrastructure development of traditional sectors in the district. Development activities exploiting the tourism potential of Kollam would be initiated. The upcoming GKSF from December 1, 2008 to January 15, 2009 would also give emphasis to tourism sector.
Kollam would be introduced to national and international tourists through its native products, the Minister said. Traditional industries would be encouraged to join the programme. Kollam beach would be decorated. Projects have been formulated to promote tourism activities at Jadayupara.
The development of Kollam canal would be completed soon, the minister said. People living on the banks of the canal and those who live on the sea shore will be rehabilitated. Rehabilitation of people affected by natural calamities would also be taken up. He said that many welfare schemes had been implemented for the traditional industrial workers. More projects would be formulated for the sector.
Gurudasan called upon the people’s representatives, officials and voluntary workers to join hands for the fulfillment of the projects.
District Collector A Shajahan presided over the function. The prizes for the winners of the photography competition held by the District Information Office were distributed at the function.
