EXTO to promote homestays in KTM 2008Ex-servicemen Tourism Development Organisation (EXTO), an organisation comprising retired army officials offers homes across various locations in Kerala. It plans to tap domestic tourists from North India and attract international tourists by promoting their properties during the Kerala Travel Mart 2008 to be held in Kochi from September 20-23. EXTO offers homestays in Alappuzha, Kochi, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Idukki (Munanr and Thekkady). “Currently, the organisation has 103 members and the services are offered by ex-servicemen for anyone who wants to come and stay with us,” said Major Prasannam, Chief Executive Officer, EXTO.
EXTO has been formed by Kerala Ex-servicemen Welfare Association (KEXWA), an organisation registered under the Charitable Society Act. KEXWA has been engaged in a number of welfare activities for over two decades and provides resettlement or employment opportunities to help the Ex – service men after their initial period of engagement. EXTO helps provide a single window booking facility to tourists visiting the state for knowing the local culture. This system is very popular with a section of tourists who want to experience the culture of the local people by staying with them and experiencing their way of living. This will also make their stay more cost effective or economical.
EXTO organises traditional ayurvedic massages through reputed ayurvedic centres located at different places in Kerala and also arranges for dental care through a group of well qualified dental surgeons located in nodal centres in all districts. Apart from this, it also arranges for suitable mode of transport including house boats as per the choice of the tourists.
